5094R: A hybrid administrative and clinical position

Compensation:  $225,000 – $285,000

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care and clinical direction for the medical department at the Correctional Center.
  • Provide primary health care to inmates in regional correctional centers including the infirmary (highest level of care offered in the prison similar to a skilled nursing facility). Maintain a panel of higher acuity chronic care patients.
  • Travel in-state for facility site visits (day trips)
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat illnesses or injuries referred to the physician.
  • Provide clinical supervision of regional nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
  • Share backup call (phone only) with other state-wide physicians. 1:3 weeks.  Typically 2 calls/day
  • Serve as a liaison with correctional facility administrators and correctional staff. Participate as part of the leadership team in the development and implementation of policies; in the authorization of outside medical services; and as a subject matter expert regarding medical-legal matters.

In an ambulatory care setting, the Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services (HARS) provides essential healthcare in secure facilities that serve sentenced and unsentenced offenders ages 16 and older. HARS also provides infirmary care to offenders who are pre- and post-op or who have medical conditions that require a higher level of care.

Position Requirements:

  • Unrestricted AK license with the State of Alaska
  • Active BLS
  • Active DEA registration
  • Must be culturally sensitive, willing to embrace the native community and their culture, and have an interest in serving underserved populations.

Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours.
Shared backup call by phone. 1:3 weeks. Typically 2 calls/day
