Describe your pre-medical and/or pre-locum work experience.

I graduated from Medical School of Southeast University in China and completed my BSN and MSN in the US. My internship rotation in China included internal medicine, surgery, pediatric, emergency medicine, psychiatric, radiology, dermatology, infectious disease, and more. My nursing experience in the US includes mental health, home care, LTC, and addiction medicine.

What drew you to locum tenens work?

I love traveling and meeting people with different backgrounds.

Why did you choose to work with Wilderness Medical Staffing?

I first learned about WMS on Youtube. Tanner, the recruiter I worked with, is very knowledgeable and professional. I am so glad I started my locum tenens journey with such a great company.

What have you enjoyed most about your locum tenens experiences?

Mary Ellen and Ethan came to site visit at my assignment in Northeast Montana on an Indian Reservation. They showed so much care and dedication. I loved the experience and stories they shared about Mary Ellen’s work in Alaska.

How has your experience been with WMS?

I love WMS! Everyone here is easy to work with and very understanding.

What surprised you most about your locum tenens experiences?

How far everything is apart. Work site is 33 miles away, nearest Walmart is 40+ miles away. Flying rocks frequently break windshield… but the landscape is beautiful here. Winter is quite rough, but summer is wonderful.

What stands out to you about the communities and cultures you have interacted with as a locum tenens provider?

People here are down-to-earth and try to preserve their culture. They try to work with the resource they have and make the best of it.

What advice do you have for prospective locum tenens providers?

Bring a warm winter coat and waterproof boots. Consider getting windshield coverage.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve learned while out on assignment?

The process of referring patient to specialty care here is different and more complicated. Mental health need is a lot more than I expected.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I would like to thank everyone at WMS who has been patiently answering my questions and helping me resolve issues. I am so honored to work with such a wonderful team!
