What is locum tenens?
Locum tenens means “to hold the place of” and is a staffing solution where healthcare professionals temporarily fill positions in healthcare facilities. By staffing temporary healthcare providers, they can help cover staff shortages, extended leaves, or increased patient demand. Leveraging locum tenens can also help relieve your permanent providers from burnout by providing medical backup for when they need to take time away from the facility.
Why work with Wilderness Medical Staffing?
We are uniquely positioned to offer you exceptional medical providers and excellent service. Our company was founded by Mary Ellen Doty, NP, a medical provider who spent more than two decades living and working in rural and remote areas. Since our founding in 2010, we have earned a reputation for placing excellent, experienced medical providers across the Northwest and Alaska. Using our extensive network of medical providers and experience in the industry, we will find you top-notch locum tenens providers. Then, during the assignment, we will provide 24/7 support to ensure seamless coverage.
Additionally, we’re humbled to have all 5-star Google reviews from both clients and providers. We’re proud members of NALTO (National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations), ensuring ethical business practices, along with members of SIA (Staffing Industry Analysts) and NRHA (National Rural Health Association). We are also grateful for our 90 NPS score (on a scale of -100 to 100) from our latest Annual Survey conducted by ClearlyRated, reflecting our commitment to excellence.
What types of medical providers does Wilderness Medical Staffing place?
We specialize in staffing nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants are required to have a minimum of two years of experience before we will consider submitting them for assignments.
What types of healthcare facilities do you serve?
We serve a variety of healthcare facilities, including rural health clinics, critical access hospitals, integrated healthcare systems, tribal health facilities, and onsite occupational health services for industries such as fishing, oil, gas, and mining.
Do you offer onsite occupational health services?
Yes, we provide onsite industrial clinic staffing services designed to meet the unique challenges of rural and remote industries, ensuring a healthier and more productive workplace.
What is Wilderness Medical Staffing’s approach to staffing?
We believe it is vital to match providers and clients based on fit, experience, skills, and interests. Our team of recruiters expertly screens every provider to ensure they are qualified to work with our clients. If our recruiters deem them as a good fit, our Chief Medical Officer personally interviews every prospective provider prior to any assignment and assesses their medical skills and professionalism.
How do you ensure the quality of your providers?
We thoroughly screen our providers, ensuring they have the necessary licenses, certifications, and skills required for your specific needs. We focus on matching the most qualified providers to your facility based on your unique requirements.
How flexible are your staffing solutions?
Our staffing solutions are highly flexible, allowing us to adapt to the fluctuating demands of rural healthcare networks. We offer short-term, long-term, and customized locum tenens assignments to meet your needs. Talk to our team to create a staffing plan that works for you!
Will we need to license the provider and make sure he/she has the proper certifications for the job?
No. Each provider is an independent contractor who will come to your facility with a state professional license and all of the required certifications for your open position.
What support do you provide during the placement process?
We handle logistics, including credentialing assistance and travel to and from the assignment. We aim to make the process seamless for both the provider and the facility.
How long will it take for WMS to get a locum tenens provider on-site?
Once we learn about your staffing needs, we will get to work immediately and use our extensive database to find the best provider for your site. If you need a provider immediately, then we aim to secure a top-notch candidate within 14 days, if not sooner. (Start dates may be dependent on credentialing with your facility.)
How much will the locum tenens provider cost?
We offer competitive rates to both our clients and providers. Our rates depend on:
- The type of provider needed (e.g. physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant);
- How skilled the provider needs to be (e.g. trauma skills, primary care only); and
- What the requirements are for a given position, including the length of an assignment and duties involved.
No matter what, we will always find the most qualified provider based off of your needs and preferences.
Will we need to provide housing for the provider?
In most situations, clients provide suitable housing and local transportation for the provider.
Can you provide culturally sensitive healthcare providers?
Yes, especially for tribal health facilities, we prioritize cultural sensitivity and comprehensive healthcare. Our providers are trained to respect and understand the cultural needs of the communities they serve.
How can I request a provider?
You can request a provider by signing up for a complimentary discovery call or filling out our staffing request form on our website. We will explore your specific needs and discuss practical solutions that can help your community thrive.
Does Wilderness Medical Staffing place permanent positions?
