Locum MD/DO – Emergency Medicine – NW Alaska
06214C – We are seeking a highly skilled Emergency Medicine Physician (MD/DO) to join the Emergency Department team at a Critical Access Hospital in Northwest Alaska. This role requires strong clinical judgment, flexibility, and the ability to work independently in a resource-limited environment while managing a wide range of emergency, urgent care, and primary care presentations. Physicians will also serve as a key clinical resource for remote villages, assisting with consultation, triage, and transfer coordination when higher levels of care are needed. This is a unique opportunity to practice broad-spectrum emergency medicine while serving remote Alaska communities surrounded by some of the most beautiful and rugged landscapes in the country.

Job Type: 1099 Locum Tenens Contract
Date Range: ASAP start date with a 1-year commitment minimum highly preferred (4 weeks on/4 weeks off)
Alaska license not required to start; willingness to obtain one is required

Schedule:
- 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off rotation
- Rotating coverage within a three-Physician Emergency Department model
- Day, night, and swing shifts shared among providers
Responsibilities:
- Patient Volume: 30 patients per day on average
- On-Call Details: On-call for emergencies; may share call with another provider
- Triage Line: Evening triage lines in place to minimize non-emergent call-back
- Consultation and coordination with providers in 15 remote Alaska Native villages
- Management of village referrals and higher-acuity patients requiring transport
Position Requirements:
- Active Alaska State Physician (MD/DO) license, or willingness to obtain
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine
- Active DEA registration
- Previous Emergency Department experience required
- Experience in rural, critical access, or resource-limited settings preferred
- Comfortable evaluating and treating a broad spectrum of patients across all age groups
- Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions with limited on-site specialty support
- Experience with patient stabilization, transfer coordination, and emergency procedures
- Comfortable consulting with remote village providers and assisting with triage and transfer decisions
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience working in Alaska is highly preferred
- Must be culturally sensitive and willing to embrace the native community and their culture
