Briefly describe your pre-medical and/or pre-locum work experience.

I started my career in healthcare out of high school becoming a paramedic. I then went back to nursing school and worked in the ER and ICU setting as an RN. Prior to locum work, I worked in rural facilities in Arkansas and Colorado.

What drew you to locum tenens work?

I enjoy the flexibility of scheduling with locum work. I am able to get back home to see family more frequently. All around I feel locum work has a better work-life balance.

Why did you choose to work with Wilderness Medical Staffing?

I worked for a few different locum companies prior to working for WMS. My first contact with WMS was so organized. Susan and her team made it seem seamless which attracted me to return to WMS.

What have you enjoyed most about your locum tenens experiences?

I have enjoyed getting to meet people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. I find the people in the community welcoming to the locum providers.

How has your experience been with WMS?

Great. Since they really understand the sites, you feel pretty prepared before going out on an assignment.

What surprised you most about your locum tenens experiences?

I think my biggest surprise was how quickly I adapted to working locum contracts full-time. I was concerned about learning a new routine at each new facility. It has been really easy and for that, I have been really surprised at times.

How has your experience been with WMS?

I can’t say anything negative about WMS. This has to be the best locum company I have ever worked for. It would be hard to go to another company because WMS has set the bar very high.

What stands out to you about the communities and cultures you have interacted with as a locum tenens provider?

The communities are so appreciative that you are there and willing to serve their community.

What advice do you have for prospective locum tenens providers?

Go for it!!! It will be the best decision you ever made. You will have hesitation at first but those worries will quickly be relieved once you are on the ground and working.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve learned while out on assignment?

Approximately 10,000 white pelicans migrate from the Gulf of Mexico to Medicine Lake, Montana every spring.
