Summary of Process

To practice as a CRNA, a provider must hold an active MT RN license or RN license with a multistate designation from a compact state.

If you currently hold an RN license with a multistate privilege in a compact state, you do not need a license in Montana to practice. (If you do not know your status, you can check it here: https://nursys.com/.)

CRNA Application Fees:

  • $75 for each specialty certification
  • $100 for prescriptive authority
  • $30 fingerprint background check

Subtotal: $205

  • $200 for RN license fees

Overall total: $405

Timeline

  • A provider should expect approximately a 4-week process period for a properly completed CRNA application after the RN license has been issued.

Application

  • Start by creating an account with Department of Labor and Industry Citizen Portal
    • https://ebiz.mt.gov/
    • Once created, you will be redirected to the customer home page where you can access the online portal to complete the application process for RN by Endorsement and/or CRNA Certificate.

Other Critical Steps

Fingerprint Background Check

  • Fingerprint background checks are required for new applications for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), Practical Nurse (LPN), Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), and Medication Aide I and II. Please review the application instructions for the fingerprint background check process by clicking here.

Prescriptive Authority

  • The prescriptive authority application is part of the CRNA application.
  • To add prescriptive authority while applying for an APRN license through https://ebiz.mt.gov/pol/, simply click “yes” to the question “Are you requesting prescriptive authority endorsement?” in addition to completing the remainder of the APRN license application.
  • To add prescriptive authority after you have already been issued an APRN license, please log in to https://ebiz.mt.gov/pol/.
    • Next to your APRN license number, click the button, “All Other Options” under the Action column.
    • Choose to add the Prescriptive Authority endorsement by selecting that check box on the next screen, and complete the subsequent screens.
    • Once you submit payment, staff will receive your request and let you know what is further needed, if anything, to add this endorsement to your APRN license.
